It is not only profits but also a great prospect
During the last five years many international meetings dedicated to the problems of developing economic contacts have taken place in Russia. But in general they were not aimed at concrete goals and very often had only an introductory nature. The St.Petersburg economic forum introduces very concrete objectives for the Commonwealth. The CIS countries are intending, first of all, to strengthen the weak economic connections between internal subjects and establish reliable links with the economic subjects of the world. Integration into the world economy is the goal of all these efforts. Experience has shown that today it is impossible to enter the world economy alone. No enterprise can manage that now in any country without state support. On the world market today there are several rather closed intergovernment groups such as the European Union, ASEAN countries, North American Economic Union, who cooperate with each other to protect their markets and create favorable conditions for their producers. We need to show the western partners the opportunities that the Commonwealth states now have available. After the first stage of reforms they are now very different. There are other economic conditions, different market-creation rules. Earlier, due to the economic instability of the post-soviet space, western partners were afraid to cooperate with us, but now we have already done everything necessary to protect their investments. Our objective now is to convince western partners that collaboration with CIS countries will not only bring profits but also open a great perspective. The West does not get enough information about the events that take place in the CIS, although this kind of information is of great interest to the economic structures of the world. I hope that the forthcoming meeting in St.Petersburg will help to fill this void.
