The task of services that work today on Russian borders is to assist carriers as much as possible. We are interested in speeding up customs procedures and the passage of freight crossing the border in both directions. As of this year the number of controlling bodies at Russian borders has been reduced from 12 to 2. From now on only customs and border officials will be working there. Starting this summer only unified transportation documents meeting European standards will be used at the Russian-Finnish border, which will certainly accelerate things. Registration of documents will be computerized in the nearest future. To avoid queues on border approaches the customs authorities of the region and the north-western border authorities have signed an agreement strictly limiting the time it takes to carry out customs' and border procedures. No one has the right to exceed that time limit without having serious reasons for doing so. Thus we are accelerating freight traffic delivery times and cutting transport costs for consignors.
