We prepare a special English-Russian issue on the problems of the Arctic and the Russian North
|
Our magazine is preparing a special issue for publication. The issue will be devoted to the Arctic and the North of Russia.
The Arctic plays a key role in many aspects of present and future life of the Northern Hemisphere.
The Arctic is both "a weather producer" and indicator of the state of the climate.
The Arctic's bowels contain immense reserves of oil, gas, gold, platinum, nickel, tin, diamonds, and other mineral products. The Arctic is crossed by air- and sea-routes, which connect Europe, Asia, and the East Coast of the USA.
The Arctic on the whole, and its Russian part especially, are the ideal place for long-term investments in local extracting and processing industry, transport, agriculture, and building.
By the way, many people are sure that there is nothing in the North of Russia except eternal frost, and so it is impossible to live there. The immense potential of the Arctic is unused. Despite its riches, the region seems to be considered a burden by the state.
All this prompted us to devote the next issue to the Arctic and the North of Russia.
We are going to tell the Russian and foreign readers about the colossal resources of the North and to answer the questions that many people have:
Why is this region so backward in comparison with the South and Centre of Russia?
Why has the current economic model for developing of Russia's North not worked out?
Why is the North of Russia considered to be nothing more than a source of raw materials?
We invite you to contribute to our new issue for publication. If you have any opinions on how to solve the problems of the Arctic and the North of Russia, New East would be happy to consider them for publication. How can transport be developed here? In what way can the extracting industry be technically reformed? How can the state protect the economic potential of its northern lands? How to attract investments to the region? How to improve the northerners' life?
Please let us know the reasons for your interest in the Arctic and the North of Russia
